Fake News or Fact? support

Three ways to reach us, all from the app and all by email to support.datadrivendecisions@gmail.com. Each one opens your own email app with the subject filled in; nothing is sent until you send it, and you can change or delete any of it first. A person reads every message.

A card is wrong: Report a mistake

Every card has Report a mistake, on the reveal and again in the deck's recap. It opens an email with the card's id, its deck, the app's version and the claim filled in (the subject is "Mistake report: <card id>"); add what you think is wrong and, if you have one, a source. Then:

  1. Your report is logged. The email becomes a ticket in our private tracker, with your name, email address and any phone number or address removed. You get one automatic reply so you know it arrived.
  2. An editor re-checks the card: its sources and your evidence. We aim to decide within 24 hours.
  3. One of three outcomes:
    • No change. The sources support the card as written; we tell you which ones.
    • Corrected. The card's explanation is rewritten; we send you the new text.
    • Retracted. The card was wrong. It is removed from the game within about ten minutes, it no longer counts in anyone's score, and the correction is listed on our public corrections page.
  4. You get an answer from a person, in the same email thread. A report is not closed until its decision is live and you have been answered. A second report about the same card joins the first, and both reporters get an answer.

How cards are made, what the verdicts mean and what we leave out: How we fact-check.

Something doesn't work: Report a problem

Settings › Report a problem opens an email (the subject is "Bug report: <version>") that asks what happened, which screen you were on and what you had just done. Below your words it adds short technical details, which you can delete: the app's version, your phone's model and Android version, the date, which decks the app has downloaded and when it last checked, the deck you are on, and whether ads were loaded. They identify neither you nor your phone, and say nothing about your scores or streak.

What helps most: the steps, one by one, and what happened instead of what you expected; a screenshot if there is something to see. We look at bug reports within a couple of days, a fix ships in the next update, and we answer in the same email thread.

An idea or an opinion: Send feedback

Settings › Send feedback opens an email with the subject "Feedback: <version>" and room for your words. Every suggestion is read and noted; we answer within about a week when there is something to say. Ideas for cards are welcome too; How we fact-check explains what a card needs.

By hand

You can also write to support.datadrivendecisions@gmail.com from any email app. A privacy request (for example, to have your emails to us deleted) is answered within 30 days, usually much sooner.

Privacy

The app has no accounts and keeps your scores on your phone. The three buttons send only what you choose to send. How your email is handled, the one automatic reply and the anonymous ticket: Privacy policy.
